Let’s Go, Firebirds!
Being a student-athlete at Carthage means being part of a top NCAA Division III athletics program. About 40% of Carthage students compete in athletics across 28 varsity sports.
Our team name “Firebirds” represents a unifying Carthage spirit: “The image we want to portray as a program is that we will always fight,” says head tennis coach Brady Lindsley ’95. “To me, that’s exactly what a Firebird is: rising from the ashes, unable to be held down.”
Join Carthage Athletics and be part of something bold, uncommon and inspiring.
“I chose Carthage because I had the opportunity to get large-school experiences at a small school where the professors can get to know me personally, as well as the opportunity to continue playing football at the next level,” shares football player Clayton Markech ’24.
“Not only do I get to play a game that I love, but I also get to play with people who I consider to be my close friends,” says esports competitor Nadia Musaitef ’25.

Being a student-athlete at Carthage, you get the best of both worlds honestly. You get to learn, grow in the classroom, and then also be a part of the sport that you've fallen in love with since you've been playing it. You get the one-on-one support from the teachers and then you get the help from your teammates as well.
The athletics teams here Carthage, they're like really good. Some of the achievements that we had during this past year, the volleyball team won the national championship two times in a row like two years in a row. So it was incredible to see it because we are like a unit. So it's really nice like to have everyone together and cheering for just one thing.
So the athletic facilities at Carthage, they're new and improving each and every year. We have the baseball, softball, and football field that all of our athletes compete on. There is the TARC which houses the baseball weight room. There's the actual gymnasium itself, so Tarble Arena for men's women's Basketball, volleyball. And then obviously the swimming pool that is also in the TARC and upstairs.
There's the Fieldhouse, we've added, "The Nest," which is a recovery room for all of our student-athletes. There's massage guns, there's granola bars, there's other food items. So we have a lot of nice things in that room that you can sign up, take it, and it's completely for free. There's so many great opportunities, the athletic staff is super kind, your coaches cared about you. There's just so much that goes into being a student-athlete, that it's an experience I would not take back.
