Phillip is studying biology at Carthage, with a minor in photography.
He’s also on the baseball team. He says he’s been able to develop strong relationships with his coaches, professors, and staff members. “They are always there whenever you need them.”
Hi, my name is Philip Hunter. I am a junior here at Carthage College studying Biology with a minor in Photography. My first favorite thing about Carthage is the small community feel. Coming from a smaller high school, I really wanted to have that environment in college. So coming to Carthage was pretty easy for me because I like the small community, the family feel, and I really want everyone to be able to experience that here.
My second favorite thing here at Carthage is the baseball team and our athletics-- shout out to the baseball team! We're looking to do great things this year and I really just love being a part of that team. Just being again, another family here. I really love that aspect of, you know my journey here at Carthage and all of our athletics. I really appreciate all of our athletics, our volleyball team, with our two-time national champions in the past two years, and just all of our athletics I really love the athletics here.
So my third favorite thing that I really love about Carthage is the student organizations. We have over 100 student organizations that you can get involved in. And most notably, I've been involved in Black Student Union where I was the president. And now I am involved in student government where I'm the Vice President. And, honestly, all the organizations we have on campus are really amazing and they all bring different aspects of culture they bring to Carthage and we hope that you can be a part of it really soon.
My fourth favorite thing I really love about Carthage is my coaches, faculty, and staff, I really appreciate all their support in my journey. They they're always there whenever you need them. Especially my coaches, coaches on the baseball team, my teachers, my biology professors, my photography professors, and all the staff here the residential life staff that have helped me in my journey. So I really appreciate all of the coaches, faculty, and staff for making this feel like a home for me, which it is.
Lastly, my favorite thing about Carthage, other than Starbucks, which is great, other than the view that's so beautiful, I love the people. I love the people that are here. I love the students that are here. I love that I'm able to connect with different cultures, with people with different backgrounds. I'm just so blessed to be able to be in a position that I am now to just be able to, you know, be a part of this community because this community is amazing. So hopefully we can have you here soon. And I can't wait for that to happen. These are my five favorite things about Carthage Scholars.
