Spotlight on Theatre
Carthage’s award-winning Theatre, Music, and Musical Theatre programs offer challenging classes, an ambitious performance schedule, and the chance to work with top names in the field. Carthage's ideal location in the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor means our theatre, music, and musical theatre students have unparalleled opportunities for internships, auditions, jobs, and partnerships with prominent visiting artists from these vibrant theatre scenes.
Integrating voice, acting, and dance, the Carthage Musical Theatre Program prepares collaborative artists for an ever-changing discipline. In addition to multiple performance opportunities, students are enrolled in several performance-based courses taught by musical theatre professionals who work in New York, Milwaukee, and Chicago.
Carthage offers majors in musical theatre (both a B.M. and a B.A.); multiple theatre disciplines including theatre performance, directing, costume design, and stage management; and a Master of Music (M.M.) in music theatre vocal pedagogy. Minors are also available.

When I was in middle school in high school, doing shows and productions, I knew I liked being able to tell a story on stage. And I wanted to be able to teach people how to do the same thing. And that's what fuels my fire. Hi, I'm Matthew, this is Carthage stories, musical theater. Our students get the opportunity to work with great faculty.
They get to work with each other in a performative situation. And they get multiple performance opportunities ranging from plays, to musicals, to our new play initiative, to dance concerts and recitals, that it's really going to set them up for the most success as they leave and become adults into the world.
There are a lot of places you can go to study musical theater, the reason why Carthage is the best place for you is, we're going to give you a lot of one on one time, you're going to have a lot of performance opportunities, you're going to be able to actually perform your first year of college, which not a lot of institutions can say.
You're also going to get trained by current working professionals who are not only in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. We are currently working internationally and nationally in New York and LA so why not get taught by the best who are currently in the trenches with you. As a student, the most rewarding experience was when I was able to present my like Final recital.
I was able to literally put it all together and present myself to the world as here I am as Matthew and as a music theater performer. That really to me is the thing that is the most rewarding. It's also the thing that I now want my students to excel at. I want them to be able to combine all of the facets of our interdisciplinary degree and show that to the world.
